Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress best recognized for her performances as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television show Lost as well as Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Maggie Grace was born in Worthington from Ohio left high school in order to move into Los Angeles after her divorced parents divorced. She landed her debut role, as Rachel's Room's title character, in 2001 despite struggling financially. In 2002 she was nominated to receive a Young Artist Award with her role as 15-year old murdered Martha Moxley. Grace played Shannon Rutherford on the Lost TV show in 2004. She was the main protagonist for two seasons and was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace was a co-star with Tom Welling on The Fog during 2005, decided to make the move into film. She belongs to the Gyllenhaal clan and the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. Her career began as a teenager when she appeared in small role in films made by her father. She also worked with her brother in 2001's popular movie Donnie Darko. She then appeared as a character in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (both 2002) as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal has received critical praise for her performances as the lead in Secretary (2002 the erotic romance drama) as well as Sherrybaby (606) and Sherrybaby (606) of which earned her Golden Globe Award nods. Following a string of commercially successful movies in 2006, including World Trade Center she received more attention for her role as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). The role she played in Crazy Heart as a mother who is a single parent was nominated in an Academy Award Best Supporting Actress. Gyllenhaal was first introduced as a director and writer in 2021 with her drama about psychological issues The Lost Daughter. For the film, she won with the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice International Film Festival and nominated for an Academy Award.
